Our Story

Regenerative Orthopedix was founded in September 2021 by Sonya Mahajan MHA MS (owner & director) to provide the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding communities with the world’s most advanced treatment options for naturally treating painful conditions with regenerative medicine.

As a migraine sufferer with a background in medical science, Sonya has spent many years researching and understanding traditional and complementary treatment options for pain syndromes.

Sonya worked with her husband Ro Mahajan, MD (a board certified pain physician), to build the region's only comprehensive regenerative orthopedic clinic.

As you will see, we do things differently here, and we're proud of it.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine focuses on treatment options which take advantage of our body’s ability to heal itself and is the future  for musculoskeletal care.

While conventional orthopedic care is focused on treating symptoms with medications (oral NSAIDs/steroids, injected steroids/cortisone) or with replacing joints, regenerative orthopedic care is focused on healing underlying tissue to address the root cause of the problem in a natural and less invasive way.

Our Treatment Options

Our treatment options (high intensity laser, shockwave, platelet rich plasma, prolotherapy) are intended to regenerate underlying degenerated or injured tissue  to reduce pain and improve function.

High Intensity Laser - The use of light at specific wavelengths delivered via robotic laser to treat the underlying damaged tissue helps to heal the area, reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and reduce pain.

Shockwave - The use of pressure waves to create micro trauma in muscle cells recreates the inflammatory cascade, improving blood flow and causing tissue regeneration.

Platelet Rich Plasma - Your own platelets are injected into the problem area. Once injected these platelets release their growth factors and attract reparative cells to the area to heal the underlying tissue.

Prolotherapy - Sugar (dextrose) is used to irritate loose ligaments, causing them to proliferate and strengthen. This provides stability to a joint and reduces muscle tension and pain surrounding the area.

A New Model of Care

In addition to providing the region’s only comprehensive regenerative orthopedic clinic, we also provide the only direct care model for musculoskeletal care in the region.

Direct care is a newer medical model where a patient can receive medical care without the use of insurance. When insurance is being used for medical care, there are numerous costs associated with care delivery which force a medical practice to focus on the volume of patients they see as opposed to the quality of care they deliver to an individual patient.

By using a direct care model, we are able to see fewer patients so we can treat each patient like a very important patient (VIP). This translates to increased care, communication, and coordination for the patient.

Person-Centered Care

In an effort to treat the whole person and not just one painful condition, we also focus on providing patients with comprehensive care.

This means we help patients with many aspects of their health which may be contributing to their pain including:

  • Sleep
  • Diet
  • Weight
  • Mood
  • Stress
  • Exercise
  • Drug/Toxin Elimination

Frequently Asked Questions

Our direct care model bypasses health insurance and allows you to directly purchase health services from our clinic.

We know this can be confusing so we have provided answers to some frequently asked questions here.

How much do your services cost?
The cost of will ultimately depend on which service you qualify for. Each patient will have a slightly different treatment plan, and the cost will vary.
Will I need imaging studies performed?

If the physician feels an imaging study would help confirm a diagnosis and this would affect the treatment plan, then we will order imaging for you. You may use your insurance to complete imaging studies in most circumstances.

Can I use FSA or HSA benefits?
Generally speaking, yes you can use FSA or HSA medical benefits. We can provide a letter of medical necessity and detailed invoice upon request.
Do I have to pay for a consultation?
Most of the time the physician is able to determine a treatment plan over the free phone consultation. However, if you would like to sit down for a face to face consultation this can be performed for a fee. If you opt to pursue a service after the consultation a discount will be applied.
